Folsom Historic District Revitalization Program Field Trip Huge Success - 001

Field Trip

On Saturday, October 01, 2005 at 07:00 a Folsom Stage Line bus pulled away from the Folsom Community Center parking lot with 32 Stakeholders armed with cameras and note pads for a long day of touring various Bay Area cities that have had their own successful business district revitalization programs. The goals for this trip were to identify features that could enhance our own Historic District and to also hopefully identify those features that we would like to avoid.

The group was divided up so that various people could concentrate on the following key Focus Areas: Tenant Mix, Traffic/Circulation Solutions, Parking Solutions, Architectural Features, Streetscape Ideas, Residential Character, Connections Between Commercial and Residential, Public Gathering Spaces, Pedestrian/Bicycle Amenities, Uses of Historical Assets, and Linkages to Nature Areas.

Our itinerary was as follows: (1) Driving tour through downtown Walnut Creek, followed by stops at (2) Market Hall in Oakland, (3) Fourth Street in Berkeley, (4) Santana Row in San Jose including lunch, (5) Los Gatos, and (6) Pleasanton including dinner. The bus returned to Folsom around 9:00 P.M. to complete the trip.

The intent is to publish as many of the pictures as possible on the dedicated Folsom Historic District Revitalization Program website as soon as possible. In addition to that website, I wanted to start this Community Forum website to be able to share information on my particular Focus Area which is Tenant Mix and a key part of the Folsom Historic District Economic Development Committee which I am a member.

All of us working on this project are interested in getting as much input from the general public and interested Stakeholders as possible. Please try to attend as many meetings as you can to allow your views to be heard. Redevelopment funds are available to the City of Folsom and a unified plan to utilize them is now being developed. Readers of this Forum are encouraged to input their own detailed comments at the bottom of each posting. This feedback will be most helpful to everyone involved. Thank you.

The following pictures were taken on this field trip to start a thought process and to solicit input for a desirable Tenant Mix from all interested stakeholder groups. A proper Tenant Mix within the Folsom Historic District Revitalization Program will help assure a strong, healthy Economic Development process for years to come.
